Baltimore doesn't have as many famous tourist attractions as nearby metropolitan areas like Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia, and residents like it that way. The Baltimore metropolitan area has a population of nearly 2.8 million, but it still has a small-town feel. Locals like to say that you can't go anywhere in "Smalltimore" without seeing someone you know.

Baltimore's elegant architecture, friendly people and lively pockets of nightlife and music make Charm City a pleasant and fun place to call home. The metro area also boasts a restaurant scene that goes beyond the city's famous crab cakes, pit beef and Berger cookies.

Baltimore is home to a variety of communities that are concentrated in the city's neighborhoods, several of which are designated as historic districts. Walking through these distinct areas provides a glimpse into the city's worldly population. Little Italy, located near the Inner Harbor, and Greektown, on the east side, both showcase their residents' heritages with eateries and shops.

Washington, DC

D.C. metro area residents don't want for things to do. The district is home to numerous cultural attractions, including several Smithsonian museums, theaters and year-round markets. The area also encompasses a blossoming restaurant scene that will please any foodie, and plenty of nightlife venues, from the trendy bars along the U Street Corridor to concerts at The Anthem on the Wharf and the iconic 9:30 Club.

District residents are also big sports fans with some championship-winning teams. They come together to cheer on the Washington Mystics (WNBA), D.C. United (soccer), the Spirit (women's soccer), the Wizards (basketball), the Capitals (hockey), the Nationals (baseball) and the Washington Commanders (football).

Outside the immediate metro area, residents can take advantage of hiking, camping and boating opportunities in Shenandoah National Park, Great Falls State Park and other outdoor spaces. Both southern Maryland and northern Virginia also feature numerous wineries and orchards.
